Leading Ranchi builder dies after fall from 6th floor
Ranchi, Feb. 7 -- Prominent real estate tycoon and managing partner of Jokhi Ram-Durga Dutt (JD) Group, Anurag Sarawgi (43), died after apparently falling from the balcony of his sixth-floor residence on Main Road in Ranchi late on Thursday, sending shockwaves through the city's business community, police said.
While the family suggested the death was an accidental fall, police are investigating "mysterious circumstances" involving a heated phone conversation moments before the incident.
According to police, Sarawgi was alone in his room, which was locked from the inside.
"A domestic help reported seeing him head to the balcony with a cigarette and lighter just before the fall. His elderly parents were present in the building on the first floor, while his wife and children were away in Tamil Nadu. Sarawgi's body was recovered from the ground floor shortly after he was heard shouting on his mobile phone," an official said.
Ranjeet Kumar Sinha, officer-in-charge of Hindpiri police station said, "An FIR is yet to be registered, though it appears to be a case of unnatural death. Relatives maintain that Sarawgi slipped accidentally. His loud, agitated talking just before the fall makes the situation suspicious...It could not be ascertained who he was last talking to.
Sarawgi was known for transforming Ranchi's landscape with many big projects....
