J'khand's first lady DGP aims at making policing more humane
Ranchi, Jan. 30 -- Jharkhand's first female Director General of Police (DGP), Tadasha Mishra (1994-batch IPS officer), has initiated a significant push to humanise the state's police force.
Following her historic appointment last year on December 31, she has made 'people-friendly policing' a cornerstone of her leadership strategy for 2026.
In a recent interaction with Hindustan Times, the DGP highlighted several critical areas for immediate improvement.
Mishra emphasised that active and empathetic listening by police could solve half of the problems of citizens seeking relief.
"People come to the police station only in case of some problem and if police officials sitting there hear them properly they will feel relieved and half of the problem will get solved," Mishra said.
The top cop said she had strictly mandated that all police personnel speak politely and refrain from using foul or rude language.
"I dislike police officials using foul language. I have mandated all police personnel to speak politely and not to use foul or rude language," Mishra said.
Expressing deep concern over unauthorised police actions, she stated that she had warned police officials against illegal detention.
"It is painful for individuals to be detained overnight without a valid reason," Mishra said.
Asked about her priority, DGP Mishra said she wanted to make the police more responsive.
"My priority is to make the police more responsive so that vulnerable groups, including women and children, do not hesitate to seek help," Mishra said....
