BHABUA, Jan. 22 -- The excise department in Bihar's Kaimur district seized 277 litres of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) from an SUV bearing the sticker of a woman Rajya Sabha MP from Uttar Pradesh and a BJP flag, officials said on Wednesday. Acting on a tip-off that a large consignment of IMFL was being smuggled into Bihar from Uttar Pradesh via the Karmnasa bridge on the Bihar-UP border, an excise team led by assistant sub-inspector Kumar Gaurav cordoned off the area late Tuesday night. A suspicious SUV with a Uttar Pradesh registration number was spotted on the Ramgarh-Mohania road near Lurpurwa village, under the Mohania police station area. When the team signalled the vehicle to stop, it halted briefly, but the smugglers and their local lineman managed to flee, taking advantage of the darkness. The SUV was found bearing stickers of UP Rajya Sabha MP Dr Sangeeta Balwant and a BJP flag displayed on the front. A total of 277 litres of IMFL was recovered from the vehicle. The seized liquor, the SUV and the lineman's vehicle were brought to the Mohania police station. A search is on for the absconding smugglers and their local associate, while efforts are underway to identify the vehicle owners based on registration details.
