PURNEA, Feb. 11 -- Income Tax (I-T) department sleuths on Tuesday conducted raids at various locations of Sanjeev Mishra, founder and CMD (chairman and managing director) of Panorama Group, a prominent real estate and infrastructure company in Supaul and Purnea. The raids were said to be in connection with tax evasion, hoarding of black money, and illegal cash transactions. Businessman Sanjeev Mishra plunged into politics in the recent Assembly elections and joined the Vikashsheel Insan Party (VIP) of Mukesh Sahni, who was deputy chief minister and face of the Opposition Mahagathbandhan. He didn't fight the election though, but he is presently the vice-president of the party. According to people aware of the developments, I-T sleuths conducted raids at the office located at Zila School Road, Purnea, as well as at the residences of the staff of the Panorama group. "Raids are underway and anything regarding the raids will be given only after assessment," I-T officials conducting raids in Purnea said. Apart from the above locations, a 22-member I-T team conducted raids at a school being run by the Panorama Group at Chhatapur in Supaul. "The I-T sleuths also interrogated Sanjeev Mishra and his family members. Several astounding information has come out of their interrogation," said an official. Supaul is the native place of Sanjeev Mishra and I-T officials conducted raids at various locations there. Reports coming from various sources said that the Panorama Group CMD had fraudulently obtained a large chunk of land in Purnea. "If the probe is conducted impartially and thoroughly, a big related fraud will come out," an official told HT, pointing out that the alleged fraud is linked to land grab along the Saura river that flows through Purnea city. In Purnea, Panorama Group has multiple housing projects.
