GAYA Ji, Jan. 24 -- Sheela Devi, a female councillor of Gaya Municipal Corporation, who is responsible for verifying births and deaths in her ward, has herself been declared dead. Now she is forced to go from one government office to another to prove that she is alive. Sheela Devi, wife of late Fucchu Yadav, a resident of Gewa Bigha locality in Gaya Ji and councillor of ward no. 34, said that she had been receiving a widow's pension for approximately 18 years since her husband's death. The pension amount was credited to her account until November 2025. When the payments stopped, she went to the nearby Vasudha Centre (cyber cafe) for KYC (electronic Know Your Customer) verification and was shocked to find that her name was listed as "deceased on the government portal. Getting no relief after running to offices concerned, she submitted a petition to district magistrate Gaya, requesting restoration of her pension and strict action against the officials who allegedly made table verification of her status....
