FIR against four officials after Patna HC order
PATNA, Jan. 15 -- The Economic Offence Unit (EoU) of Bihar police registered an FIR against four government officials, including the then excise superintendent, Muzaffarpur, the then SHO of Sakra police station, investigating officer and the then DSP (East) of Muzaffarpur after the directive of Patna high court for not releasing a Scorpio SUV despite the court's order and auctioning it at a very low price in 2020.
The FIR was filed on December 26 last year and the investigation continues against the officials, EoU officials said.
The FIR was registered on the basis of the statement of Scorpio owner, Sushil Kumar Singh,, who said that his vehicle was seized by police on December 25, 2020 after they found five bottles of foreign liquor in it. Sunil was forwarded to jail. After being granted bail, he filed a petition before the Special Excise Court (Muzaffarpur) for his vehicle to be released. The court ordered the SHO to release the vehicle on January 11, 2023, but the vehicle was not released. Following this, the owner approached the court in which the court issued a show cause notice against the SHO.
The SHO told the court that the seized vehicle had been auctioned on March 31, 2023 to one Bhola Das for Rs.3.85 lakh only. Singh had bought the Scorpio in 2018, and it was insured until January 2022, and its value was assessed at around Rs.12.12 lakh....
