Eloped woman sold, rescued from bizman's house after 13 months
PURNEA, April 3 -- Police in Purnea district rescued a 21-year-old woman who was allegedly sold to a businessman in March last year. The woman had eloped with her boyfriend who later sold her to the businessman for Rs.2 lakh.
The father lodged an FIR with Bhawanipur police on March 31 under section 140(3) (wrongful confinement) of BNS after they had got definite information about her illegal confinement in the house of a grain merchant in Gulabbagh area falling under the jurisdiction of Sadar police station area in Purnea.
"We suffered humiliation throughout all 13 months and out of shame, we never approached the police," father of the victim said, adding, "We have lodged an FIR after 13 months only after we came to know of her illegal confinement and continuous physical, sexual and mental exploitation."
Talking to media persons on Wednesday evening, Purnea SP Sweety Sahrawat said, "The young woman was rescued from the house of the businessman who had kept her in illegal confinement and was never allowed to go outside."
The SP said the businessman Prahlad Kumar Jaiswal was arrested and the man who allegedly sold her to the businessman would be arrested soon. She said soon after the family members lodged an FIR, the police rescued the woman and later on the basis of the clues made available, police recovered one country made pistol, two revolvers, 157 cartridges, 7 empty cartridges, 11 bank passbooks, land documents besides Rs.5.80 lakh from the house of the businessman....
