Debt-burdened senior Congress leader dies by suicide in Bihar's Kaimur district
BHABUA, Jan. 30 -- Senior Congress leader and party's Kaimur district vice-president allegedly died by suicide by hanging himself at his home on Thursday morning. In his suicide note, he wrote that he was taking his life due to financial distress caused by debt.
The 66-year-old Dalit leader,Uma Shankar Paswan, hanged himself from a ceiling fan in a room of his house at Sondihara village, which falls under the jurisdiction of Bhabua police station.
To repay the debt, he had even sold his valuable 15 decimal land, but he could not repay the entire amount. He had mentioned the name of one lender, stating that he had sold him five decimal lands in May last year, but the lender was delaying the full payment.
Congress district president Radheshyam Kushwaha said that the deceased Congress leader was a gentleman who had four daughters, and he had incurred a lot of debt for their marriages. The deceased wife said that he had been very distressed for the past three or four days due to the pressure of debt. Kaimur Superintendent of Police Hari Mohan Shukla said that a case of unnatural death had been registered and the police were taking further action in light of the recovered suicide note....
