criminal Wanted for murder of priest injured in STF encounter
PATNA, Dec. 14 -- The Bihar Special Task Force (STF) arrested a wanted criminal involved in cases of murder, robbery and violations of the Arms Act after an encounter in the Belsand police station area of Sitamarhi district, police said on Saturday.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Amit Kumar confirmed that the injured criminal was identified as Shantanu Singh, who sustained bullet injuries during an exchange of fire between the police and the criminals. His accomplice was also arrested during the operation.
The SP said Shantanu Singh was immediately admitted to a private clinic and later referred to Shri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH), Muzaffarpur, due to his critical condition. Police recovered a pistol and three empty cartridges from the spot.
According to police, Shantanu was involved in several serious crimes, including the murder of a priest in the Jafarpur area, looting of idols, and the murder of Jan Suraaj leader Ravi Singh, a resident of Bhorha village. He had been absconding for a long time.
Acting on a tip-off, the STF conducted a raid in the area. On spotting the police, Shantanu opened fire, prompting retaliatory firing by the police in which he was shot in the leg.
Taking advantage of the situation, other criminals managed to flee. However, one of them, identified as Vicky Singh, was later arrested. Police said Shantanu Singh is facing more than six criminal cases in Sitamarhi and Muzaffarpur districts....
