CBI offers cash reward of Rs.10L for info about missing teacher
PATNA, Feb. 1 -- The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probing the mysterious disappearance and suspected murder of a 32-year-old teacher, Kamlesh Rai, on Saturday announced a cash award of Rs.10 lakh for anyone providing credible information about Rai.
Rai has been missing since July 13, 2013 and the CBI had on February 9, 2024 registered a kidnapping case against the unidentified accused following a high court order of a Criminal Writ petition filed by his father, Rajesh Kumar, fearing he would have been abducted by criminals.
The central premier agency's notice states that any person, who provides credible information about the Kamlesh, would be given a cash award of Rs.10 lakh and their identity will be kept secret.
Rai, a native of Kolhrampur village of Bhojpur district, preparing for competitive examination in Ara Town and teaching at a private coaching institute, mysteriously disappeared with his motorcycle after he had gone to attend a funeral procession at Mahuli Ghat under the Sinha police station area on July 13, 2023.
In this connection, Kamlesh's father later registered a first information report with the Koilwar police station under section 363 of BNS and provided a photograph of him to the investigating officer (IO), but the police failed to trace him.
His family even named some suspects, but it also proved to be of no avail.
An SIT constituted by Bhojpur police but it also failed to find the teacher.
During it investigation, the CBI arrested two persons, including a woman sub-inspector of Bihar police, Anjali Kumari, native of Ara Town and posted at Lakhisarai district.
Anjali Kumari, a 2019-batch police officer, is accused of concealing crucial evidence and attempting to influence the course of investigation related to the suspected kidnapping of Rai. Following her arrest, she has been suspended, and departmental proceedings have been initiated against her.
Earlier, the CBI had arrested the main accused Rupesh Kumar Chaubey. During his interrogation and the examination of digital evidence, the alleged involvement of the woman SI came to light.
The agency has recovered important audio clips and digital records, which are currently undergoing forensic analysis.
The probe agency has also intensified efforts to trace the missing teacher, including matching records of unidentified bodies found in nearby districts.
This is the fourth time the CBI has been handed over the probe of a missing person in the state....
