PATNA, June 20 -- Bihar chief secretary (CS) Amrit Lal Meena has sought the Centre's immediate attention for resolution of several technical and operational issues at Patna's Jay Prakash Narayan (JPNI) airport, requesting it to depute an inter-departmental multidisciplinary team to inspect the area around the airport, and suggest necessary corrective measures for safety of aircraft operations, said officials on Thursday. Meena, in his letter of June 16, to the secretary, ministry of civil aviation, mentioned about issues arising in the CAT-I instrument landing system approach lighting installation, and commissioning of the new doppler very high frequency omnidirectional range system, a radio navigation system to help pilots determine their bearing and direction relative to a ground station/ runway. As part of the CAT-I system, Patna airport has "intermediate approach light facilities", and efforts to have "full approach light facilities" have come to a naught due to runway extension hurdles....
