PATNA, Feb. 17 -- The Bihar Human Rights Commission (BHRC) took cognizance with the mysterious death of a NEET aspirant and issued notice to the senior superintendent of police (SSP) Patna, to submit a complete probe report within eight weeks. The NEET aspirant was found unconscious at the Shambhu Girls Hostel on January 6 and later died on January 11 in a private hospital. The post-mortem and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) reports stated that sexual assault cannot be ruled out and presence male sperm on her undergarment. The death triggered a massive political slugfest, prompting the government to handover the case to the CBI on January 31. The girl's family had alleged that she was sexually assaulted and accused the authorities of attempting a cover-up. A petition was filed before the BHRC by human rights lawyer SK Jha alleged failure in taking lawful action in the mysterious death case and urged impartial and high-level investigation into the circumstances surrounding the case. Though an FIR was registered on the charges of sexual abuse and suspected murder, Jha claimed that no effective action was taken so far. Seeking justice, Jha approached the commission and demanded an impartial investigation. "The postmortem report of the student made it clear that the matter is serious in nature. Even the injury marks on the body and other circumstances pointed to a heinous criminal act. We demanded an impartial and high-level inquiry into the matter under the supervision of a retired judge," said Jha, adding that the BHRC will hear the matter on April 22. Meanwhile, the CBI has registered a fresh case and took over the investigation into the matter. The agency has now begun a fresh investigation from the beginning, examining all possible angles and evidence. Officials indicated that the probe is comprehensive and that no aspect of the case will be overlooked. The CBI team started the probe from the hostel premises, capturing photographs and collecting visual evidence both inside and outside the building. The case continues to draw close public attention, with expectations that the CBI investigation will bring clarity to the circumstances surrounding the student's death....
