BHAGALPUR, Jan. 4 -- A 45-year-old man was found dead and his 40-year-old wife is said to be critical with acid burns in Bihar's Bhagalpur district, with police suspecting it to be a case of attempted murder-suicide, officers aware of the details said on Saturday. Police said that the man allegedly poured acid on his wife before dying by suicide by drinking the substance. The incident took place on Thursday night when the couple were with their son at their house in Premnagar area of Bhagalpur. "We are still waiting for the statement of the woman as both her sons are.minor and they are with her at Patna AIIMS" station house officer (SHO) Neeraj Kumar said. Police said that the woman sustained grievous injuries in the incident. The woman, whose condition is said to be critical, is undergoing treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) Patna. "She has lost vision in one of her eyes," the SHO said. "We don't know the exact condition of burns, but her condition is critical and she is undergoing treatment." According to Bhagalpur city superintendent of police (SP) Shubank Mishra, the incident likely took place over a land dispute between the couple. "The reason behind the incident was land which the man wanted to sell, while the woman was against it," the SP said. "Prima facie, it appears to be a case of suicide after attempting murder," the SP added. "We have sent the husband's body to the medical college and hospital, and a probe is underway on the basis of the statements of the son of the deceased," SHO Kumar said....
