34-yr-old man arrested for rape, murder of Class 6 girl in Rohtas
SASARAM, Dec. 16 -- Rohtas police on Monday claimed to have solved the brutal rape and murder of a 12-year-old Class 6 girl with the arrest of a 34-year-old villager, a partially handicapped man.
Police said, the girl was raped and killed when she was going to pick her younger brother from a coaching centre at a village under Nasriganj police station, on December 11 evening. At least 22 nail marks and other injuries were found on the girl's face, neck, chest, back, and shoulder. The perpetrator's thumbs were deeply embedded in her neck, tearing the skin underneath. Severe injuries to internal organs confirmed violent sexual assault, the postmortem examination revealed.
A case was registered under various sections of BNS and POCSO Act against unidentified accused.
SP, Raushan Kumar formed an SIT under Bikramganj ASP Sanket Kumar. Nasriganj SHO Avinash Kumar, district intelligence unit and forensic science experts were included in the team for technical assistance and scientific investigation.
The inspection of the crime scene and the statements of witnesses present around led the SIT to villager Upendra Ram, who was seen at the place around the time of occurrence. Police questioned Ram who gave contradictory and false statements regarding his presence, use of mobile phone and the injuries found on his body, police said.
The scratches on Upendra's feet were caused by thorny plumb bushes at the scene. Witnesses also confirmed that Ram had consumed liquor before and after the incident. Ram was arrested after evidence found that he had removed victim's body from the scene after rape and murder, placed it in a nearby narrow lane, then raised an alarm to mislead the people.
The clothes worn by Ram at the time of the incident, were seized from his house, police added. Several stains were found on the clothes that were being sent to the FSL at Patna along with his blood samples, to match with the samples collected from the victim's body. The previous criminal history of Ram, was also being investigated. He was partially handicapped of fingers and unmarried. He worked as a construction labourer, the SP said.
Investigation was on and samples of some other persons were also sent for a DNA match to make a foolproof case and ensure maximum punishment to the accused through speedy trial of the case, he added.
Victim's father said, "My daughter will not return but the perpetrator deserved a punishment that would set an example". Her mother urged that the perpetrator's hands and private parts be chopped off, then he be shot dead, so that the beast would realise the pain her daughter had endured....
