3 killed in Hazaribagh blast
RANCHI, Jan. 15 -- Two women and a man - a couple among them - died in an alleged explosion at Habib Nagar under the Bada Bazar police station area of Hazaribagh district on Wednesday, police said.
An official familiar with the case said that the explosion occurred around 4.30 pm. "The blast was sudden, causing chaos in the area. It took place during the cleaning of bushes," the official said.
Another police officer, requesting anonymity, said the incident appears to be a bomb explosion. "The explosion occurred while spade work was underway, and the spade struck something hidden underground. It appears that a bomb-like substance buried beneath the surface caused the blast," the officer added.
Hazaribagh superintendent of police (SP) Anjani Anjan confirmed the incident, saying a team of forensic experts and the bomb disposal squad had been called for a proper probe. "The reason behind the explosion is yet to be ascertained. A forensic team and bomb disposal squad have been deployed," he said, without elaborating further.
Police identified the deceased as Rashida Parveen, Saddam, and Nanhi Parveen.
