PATNA, Jan. 16 -- Samastipur police on Thursday suspended the SHO of Tajpur police station, a sub-inspector and a constable for subjecting a man to third-degree torture. After a probe report by ASP Sanjay Pandey, SP Arvind Pratap Singh suspended SHO Shankar Sharan Das, SI Rajvansh Kumar and constable Rahul Kumar. A departmental inquiry was also initiated against them. Police said on the night of December 28, a theft was reported from Sony Fancy Jewellers at Neem Chowk under Tajpur police station. The shopowner claimed about 28 kg silver, 60 grams of gold, Rs.20,000 cash were stolen from his shop and suspected his employee Manish Kumar. Police arrived at the shop on December 29 and took Manish into custody for interrogation but later released. On December 31, shop owner Mohd Zaki reportedly thrashed him with iron rod and threatened to kill him. Police were informed, who took him to the police station and beat him. "My son was kept in lockup from December 31 to January 4, where police poured petrol in his private part and forced confession," said his father Sanjay Poddar....
