Two ED officers linked to Kolkata's I-PAC office raids honoured by govt
New Delhi, May 2 -- Two enforcement directorate officers on Friday were honoured for showcasing "exceptional composure" during a sensitive search in Kolkata. The commendation certificates were given by Union minister of state for finance Pankaj Chaudhary to assistant directors Vikram Ahlawat and Prashant Chandela at the 70th ED day held in New Delhi.
ED said the officers showed "exceptional composure by continuously recording events through incident reports, which enabled ED to bring the matter to the notice of the Honorable Supreme Court." ED did not name the case but people aware of the matter said Ahlawat was part of the raids at the I-PAC office, during which chief minister Mamata Banerjee came to the office and took documents she said was her party's election material.
While conferring the award to Chandela, the central agency said he demonstrated "exceptional and professional courage at an unprecedented search operation in Kolkata".
ED said that he had shown remarkable presence of mind meticulously preparing a panchnama that provided the primary evidence at the Supreme Court hearing.
The raid on January 8 at the I-PAC office and its director Pratik Jain's house on in Kolkata grabbed headlines after CM Banerjee descended on both locations with state police and administration officials and was seen taking away certain documents....
