sahaja handed singles wildcard in mumbai open
Mumbai, Jan. 29 -- India's No.1 women's singles player, Sahaja Yamalapalli, has been handed a wildcard into the main draw of the upcoming L&T WTA 125 Mumbai Open, which will be held at the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA) here from February 2.
Sahaja, ranked 370 in the world, played a key role in India's second-place finish in the Asia-Oceania Group 1 stage of the Billie Jean King Cup in Pune. She will be eager to start the year strong and improve on her showing from the previous edition of the WTA event in Mumbai, where she exited in the Round of 32.
"I am extremely grateful to MSLTA for giving me the wildcard. Playing a WTA event at home is always truly special and it means a lot to me," Sahaja said in a press release.
"I've made a few changes to my game since the last edition, especially in my serve and I've seen a massive improvement as a result."
The main draw is scheduled from February 2-8....
