Mumbai, Feb. 21 -- The Maharashtra government on Friday appointed senior IAS officer Rajesh Narvekar as the state's new Transport Commissioner, replacing Vivek Bhimanwar, who retired at the end of January. Narvekar, a 2009-batch IAS officer, previously served as commissioner of the state Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Sources in the state bureaucracy said he had proceeded on leave following differences with political leadership. Narvekar previously held a posting in the Chief Minister's Secretariat.
