Raj retracts order deputing teachers for Ram Katha event
Jaipur, Feb. 4 -- The Rajasthan education department has withdrawn an order appointing five teachers to volunteer for the arrangement of a 'Ram Katha' event at a temple in Bundi following criticism from the Opposition, who raised the issue in the state assembly on Tuesday.
The order, issued by Bundi's Nainwa chief block education officer (CBEO) Anil Goyal, on Monday appointed the teachers to assist in organising the nine-day programme between February 2-7 at the Shree Ambika Mata Mandir in Bansi.
The five teachers were from four higher secondary level schools under the Nainwa block in Rajasthan.
The order triggered a row, with state Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra raising the issue in the assembly on Tuesday.
During the debate on the Governor's address, a heated exchange broke out between Dotasra and education minister Madan Dilawar. Dotasra accused the minister of "ruining the education system" and said teachers were first deployed for chasing dogs and later assigned duties at 'Ram Katha' events.
The Congress leader also brought up the issue of paper leaks, saying, "You are hurling spears at each other while children's futures are being destroyed," he said.
Amid the criticism, the state education department withdrew the order. "It's a human error. We thought there would be some sports and creative competitions. Soon, we found that it was only a religious event, so we withdrew the order," Goyal said....
