Purohit, Parab spin DMCC to 7-run win
MUMBAI, Jan. 9 -- Left-arm spinner Sahil Purohit claimed six wickets for 49 runs to help DMCC beat Greater Mumbai Police Sports Club B by seven runs in a closely fought Times Shield B Division first round match. Purohit was well supported by his spin partner Heramb Parab who claimed four wickets.

Tata Sports Club 220 & 292 (Kevin D'Almeida 90, Aryan Patni 69; Vishal Harsh 5/70) drew with Central Railway SA 241 & 221/8 (Pravin Deshetti 38, Rudra Dhandey 32, Ajay Gigna 31; Yashraj Malap 3/28). Mafatlal CC 259 & 217 (Ajinkya Patil 47, Rugved More 45, Shubham Sharma 5/44) drew with Jain Irrigation System 193 & 140/7 (Shubham Sharma 49, Ajay Mishra 4/30).
Nanavati Hospital 246 & 203 (Dinesh Pawar 81, Onkar Jadhav 47, Nishit Balla 4/33) drew with Greater Mumbai Police SC-A 233 & 124-2 (Tanish Meher 50, Rohit Pol 32).
The coaches must harp on improving the defence of their wards if they are to play longer format of the game successfully, said former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar. "The batsmen look clueless when the ball turns and adopt aggression as they don't have footwork to combat spinners. Develop solid defence to be successful," said Vengsarkar, while addressing the under-14 age group players at the prize distribution function at his academy ground at the Oval Maidan, Churchgate. Shri Ma Vidyalaya won the U-14 cricket tournament by beating Bravo Cricket Academy by six wickets.
Seahorse Equestrian team, trained by Olympian Imtiaz Anees at his training school near Mumbai, won 10 medals, including six gold and three silver, at the Equestrian Junior National Championships. Seahorse won the gold in Under-21 Team Show Jumping, U-18 Show Jumping and U-18 Eventing; silver medals in U-14 and U-12 Team Dressage....
