MUMBAI, Jan. 11 -- Annamalai's remark that Mumbai was not a Maharashtra city but an international city has handed the Opposition an opportunity to attack the BJP. Annamalai made the comment while campaigning in Mumbai on Friday. Pitching for a "triple-engine government", he said Mumbai alone could have it, with Narendra Modi in Delhi, Devendra Fadnavis as CM and a BJP mayor. Citing the city's Rs.75,000-crore budget, he contrasted it with Chennai's Rs.8,000 crore and Bengaluru's Rs.19,000 crore. The Shiv Sena (UBT) hit back sharply. MP Sanjay Raut said the BJP had long viewed Mumbai as separate from Maharashtra and accused it of plotting to break the city away, asking what the Shinde-led Sena had to say. As the row escalated, Raut mocked Annamalai as a star campaigner who had "slapped" his own party and demanded his arrest. Supriya Sule said Mumbai was inseparable from Maharashtra. htc...
