Ahmedabad, March 1 -- If oil was the regulator of the previous century, microchips will be the regulator of this century, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday, as he inaugurated US-based Micron Technology's semiconductor facility in Sanand area of Gujarat. "After the world's largest and most successful AI Summit, today we are witnessing another historic milestone. While the AI Summit introduced the world to India's AI prowess, today's event is proof of India's commitment to technology leadership," he said. PM Modi said the development reflects India's transition from a software-focused economy to one strengthening its hardware base. Recalling that discussions on data and chips were once confined to limited circles and largely centred on IT services, Modi said India was now expanding into semiconductor manufacturing. "Today, a country known for software is strengthening its identity in hardware as well. In Sanand, we are seeing the rise of a new future. The commencement of commercial production at Micron's ATMP facility will strengthen India's role in the global technology value chain," he said.
