Dharamshala, April 14 -- A man was arrested on Monday for killing a 19-year-old college student in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi district, officers said, adding that they have booked the accused for murder and are interrogating him to ascertain the motive behind the crime. According to police, on Monday, around 9.30 am, the victim, on her way to college, was walking to the Gopalpur bus stop in the Sarkaghat sub division when the assailant intercepted her and slit her throat with a sickle. The attacker also stabbed her multiple times in the neck and arm, causing her to collapse and die on the spot. The accused fled the spot, but locals later found him hiding in the nearby fields and handed him over to the police. Mandi superintendent of police Vinod Kumar confirmed that the investigation is underway. "One accused has been arrested. We are interrogating him to ascertain his motive." he said.
