Kamaal R Khan held for firing in Oshiwara
MUMBAI, Jan. 25 -- The Oshiwara police on Saturday arrested film actor and producer Kamaal Rashid Khan (KRK) for allegedly firing two rounds from his licensed pistol at a residential building in Oshiwara, Andheri West, on January 18, triggering panic among residents of Nalanda Building and the surrounding area.
Khan was produced before the holiday court in Bandra on Saturday and remanded to police custody till January 27. Police said Khan confessed the shots were fired accidentally while he was cleaning the weapon. However, his lawyer denied the allegation in court, claiming Khan did not fire any bullets.
The case was registered after writer-director Neeraj Kumar Mishra and model Prateek Baid, residents of the second and fourth floors respectively, told police they heard a loud sound resembling gunfire. On stepping out, they found two projectiles in the building premises and noticed damage to the outer wall coating, which appeared to have eroded due to the impact.
Initially, the police booked an unknown person as CCTV footage from the vicinity did not reveal any suspect. Officers first suspected mischief, but later concluded the shots appeared to have been fired from a pistol, not an air gun as initially assumed. Police said the bullets were of low calibre, though they were not immediately sure of the weapon used. During the investigation, police checked licensed firearms in the area and found Khan's bungalow located about 400 metres away, opposite the mangroves and overlooking the building. Khan was detained on Friday evening and later arrested after he allegedly confirmed he was cleaning and testing the weapon when two rounds were accidentally discharged. His lawyer argued that Khan had no enmity with the complainants or residents....
