Kolkata, Feb. 4 -- West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday demanded the impeachment of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, continuing her criticism of the Election Commission of India (ECI) over the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) in the state. "Even we want him to be impeached. We don't have the numbers [in Parliament], but impeachment can take place. There are provisions of impeachment. If any such step is taken, we would discuss it within the party. If something is taking place for the public interest, we all work together. I have no problem with that," Banerjee told reporters in New Delhi. Banerjee was responding to a question on supporting a retrospective law to initiate action against the CEC. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had warned the poll panel during the winter session of the Lok Sabha in December 2025 that the opposition would "change the law retroactively" to act against the CEC.P11...
