MUMBAI, Jan. 30 -- Two domestic workers of a Juhu businessman were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly stealing valuables worth Rs.53 lakh while he was on a trip to Gujarat. According to the police, the complainant, Naishadh Patel, had travelled to Gujarat with his wife on January 1. During their absence, the two accused, who regularly came to clean the flat, allegedly broke open a cupboard's lock and stole cash along with gold and silver ornaments, collectively valued at Rs.53 lakh. "The theft came to light after the Patels returned to Mumbai, following which a complaint was lodged at the Juhu police station. We registered a case and initiated an investigation, scrutinising CCTV footage from the residential building and nearby areas," said a police officer. Based on technical analysis and surveillance inputs, the police arrested Shakti Shankar Mandal, 26, and Vijay Devendra, 24. During interrogation, Devendra claimed he committed the theft to arrange money for his wife's medical treatment. Police, however, said Mandal is a habitual offender, with three previous theft cases registered against him....
