FIR against 5 illegal schools in Panvel for violating RTE Act
NAVI MUMBAI, Jan. 25 -- The Panvel City Police have registered an FIR against the managements of five private schools in the Panvel region for allegedly operating without mandatory government recognition and UDISE (Unified District Information System for Education) numbers, in violation of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009.
The complaint was filed by Shahu Baburao Satpal, 42, group education officer, Panchayat Samiti, Panvel, who alleged that the schools continued operations despite repeated notices, misleading parents, students, staff and authorities.
Police said the institutions include SGT International School, Vedic T International School and Vedgriha Public School in Karanjade, along with The Buddhist International School (Primary) in Dapoli Pargaon and The Buddhist International School (Secondary) in Karanjade.
Officials said the RTE Act, in force since April 1, 2010, makes it illegal to run a school without prior recognition. Notices were issued on September 11, 2025, directing closure and transfer of students, but inspections found the schools still functioning. Further probe is underway.
