Corporator claims theft of Rs.20k in BMC hall
Mumbai, April 16 -- Shiv Sena (UBT) corporator Laxmi Bhatia has claimed that Rs.20,000 was stolen from her bag inside the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) standing committee hall on Wednesday afternoon while she stepped out for lunch.
According to Bhatia, the cash was kept in a small purse inside her bag, which she left unattended during a committee meeting. When she returned from the pantry, she found the bag open and her mobile charger wire hanging out of the bag.
Following the incident, Bhatia wrote to Mayor Ritu Tawde demanding a probe and calling for CCTV cameras to be installed in the standing committee hall. Bhatia has not lodged a formal police complaint on the issue so far.
The hall currently does not have CCTV coverage, even though it is frequented by civic officials, staff and media during committee meetings.
"Though the civic meetings are not confidential, these are closed-door meetings and traditionally CCTV cameras have never been installed in any of the meeting halls, be it the standing committee room, the corporation hall or the other committee halls," an official said....
