City to get 5% less water supply for tunnel work
MUMBAI, April 17 -- The city will face a 5% reduction in water supply for a week starting April 20, as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is set to undertake crucial maintenance of its key water tunnels.
The reduced water supply will continue till April 27, as the technical works on Water Tunnel No. 1 (AMT-1), from Chembur to Wadala and further to Parel, and Water Tunnel No. 2 (AMT-2), extending from Chembur to the Trombay low-level and high-level reservoirs, are scheduled to undergo maintenance works. The work includes charging, flushing, de-chlorination, aimed at ensuring the efficiency of the water distribution system.
The temporary reduction will affect several parts of the eastern suburbs, including Kurla, Govandi, Chembur and Ghatkopar, as well as areas between Bhandup and Mulund. Large parts of the island city are also expected to experience reduced supply during this period. htc...
