7 held in drug bust, Rs.22l-worth narcotics seized
NAVI MUMBAI, Feb. 14 -- An illicit scrap unit along Nerul's railway tracks was allegedly masking a drug distribution hub. The Navi Mumbai Police's Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) busted the operation on Thursday, arresting seven people and seizing narcotics worth Rs.22 lakh.
Acting on tip-offs, a team led by Senior Police Inspector Sandeep Nigade raided the unauthorized hut around 12:30pm on Thursday, recovering 43.6 grams of heroin and 26 grams of ganja allegedly stored for sale.
The seven arrested accused have been identified as Rakesh Sachin Waghri,18, Rajendra Bhima Kale, 55, Anita Sanjay Pawar, 29, Raju Babu Rathod, 28, Shivram Laxman Pawar, 32, Kamalabai Babu Rathod, 55, and Suman Raju Rathod, 25.
Two suspects, identified as Vishal and Ganga Kale, are absconding and efforts are underway to trace them, police said. The alleged kingpin, Raju Rathod, is a repeat offender with prior cases of assault and theft/house-breaking registered against him.
A case has been registered under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Following the crackdown, police have written to the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation seeking demolition of the illegal structure to prevent recurrence of such an incident....
