3 dead as 18 gas cylinders explode in Bhayandar slum
MUMBAI, April 11 -- Three people died in a massive fire that broke out in an unauthorized slum located opposite the Indralok Police Chowki, in Bhayandar East, late on Friday.
The incident occurred at 8 pm after a series of explosions of gas cylinders, which caused the fire to intensify rapidly. Fire fighters brought the fire under control by 11pm.
Fire brigade personnel said at least 25 gas cylinders were retrieved from the site, of which about 18 were believed to have exploded in the fire. Three charred bodies were recovered from the site and the process of identifying them was underway at the time of going to press.
"We have registered a case of accidental death and are in the process of identifying the bodies. We are also trying to find out what caused the fire," said an officer from Navghar police station. Prakash Borade, chief fire officer said, "The three bodies are charred beyond recognition. The spot was occupied mostly by construction workers." Sandeep Rane, MNS chief of the Mira-Bhayandar unit, said: "Seventy per cent of the structures in Mira-Bhayandar are without fire NOCs."...
