Youth chased by motorcycle-borne assailants, shot dead
PRAYAGRAJ, April 5 -- A young man was allegedly shot dead by bike-borne assailants on Saturday evening while he was on his way to Maa Chandika Devi Dham along with a village head in Pratapgarh. The attackers chased the motorcycle, and after it crashed, fatally shot the youth, and fled the scene. SP (Pratapgarh) Deepak Bhukar reached the spot with a heavy police force and a forensic team.
The deceased was identified as Pankaj Shukla, 32, resident of Duhia Mahmadapur. He was travelling on a motorcycle to Chandika Devi Dham for darshan along with Pawan Yadav, head of a neighboring village.
According to police, when the duo reached the Raivi Rajanipur turn on the Kusaha-Mawaiya road, two youths on another motorcycle began chasing them. Pawan attempted to escape by speeding up, but around 500 metres ahead, he lost control of the motorcycle and fell. Taking advantage of the situation, the assailants fired at Pankaj. The attackers then assaulted Pawan Yadav and managed to flee.
Pawan informed one of Pankaj's relatives and took the injured youth to the Gadwara police outpost from where cops rushed him to the medical college, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Police reached the scene, though no immediate clues regarding the attackers were found. The SP said both accused had been identified, and the police were investigating all the aspects before lodging a case.
A 52-year-old man was found dead on the Prayagraj-Lucknow railway line on Saturday morning. Police are investigating whether he fell accidentally from a moving train or was pushed off it. According to police, the body was spotted near Rajanpur village in Pratapgarh by a trackman during a routine inspection. He informed the station superintendent, who alerted the police. Inspector Manoj Pandey reached the spot and began the investigation. The deceased was identified through an Aadhaar card recovered from his pocket as Iqbal, resident of Ward No 1, Parariya, Sonbarsa in Bihar. The police notified the family and sent the body for post-mortem examination. Officials said it could not be determined which train the man fell from.
An elderly farmer from Jorwat village of Shankergarh, Prayagraj, allegedly died by suicide on Saturday afternoon by jumping in front of a moving train. The incident occurred around 4pm near the railway crossing on the Shankargarh-Raniganj road, within the local police station area. According to officials, the deceased was standing near the crossing when he suddenly leapt onto the tracks in front of the Chambal Express, which was heading to Mumbai. He died on the spot due to severe injuries.
Teams from the GRP, Shankergarh, reached the spot and completed the legal formalities before informing the family members. Locals said the deceased had been suffering from mental health related issues for some time and was undergoing treatment....
