Meerut, Feb. 27 -- A woman was allegedly murdered by her brother-in-law in Sankraud village of the Khekra area in Baghpat district, police said. The accused, Sahil, is alleged to have killed Chanchal, 26, wife of his elder brother Naveen, by crushing her head with a brick inside their home. After the incident, Sahil reportedly jumped from the second floor of the house and sustained injuries to his head and leg. He was first taken to the district hospital and later referred to a private hospital in Meerut, where he is undergoing treatment. According to police, Naveen and Sahil jointly run an auto-repair shop in Loni. Naveen married Chanchal, a resident of Loni, two years ago. The couple has a six-month-old daughter. Chanchal had returned to her matrimonial home from her parental house on Tuesday. On Wednesday morning, Naveen left for work along with Sahil, but Sahil came back home in the afternoon. In the evening, Sahil allegedly asked his mother, Kamlesh, to step out to get milk. When she left, he is said to have attacked Chanchal with a brick, killing her on the spot. Family members later found her lying dead in the house. Sahil's younger brother, Shivam, took him to the district hospital. While there, Sahil reportedly told doctors and others that he had fallen from the roof after being frightened by monkeys. Police later questioned him at the Meerut hospital regarding the alleged murder and its motive. Police also inspected the scene.Naveen reportedly switched off his phone after learning about the incident. Attempts by police and relatives to contact him were unsuccessful, and he had not returned home till late night.
