PRAYAGRAJ, March 8 -- A 20-year-old woman from the Phaphamau area died at SRN Hospital on Saturday morning, nearly 25 days after undergoing an illegal abortion that led to severe complications. Police have arrested her lover and one quack doctor involved, while another accused remains absconding. Following her death, Section 105 of the CrPC has been added to the case, and efforts are underway to arrest the absconding doctor. According to a complaint filed by the woman's father, she became pregnant and was taken by her lover, Raviraj, to an unlicensed practitioner in Soraon on February 10. At a clinic in Baradari Bazaar, Holagarh, two self-styled doctors, Satyendra Patel and Rahul, allegedly administered incorrect abortion medicines. When her condition worsened, she was taken to Soraon and later abandoned at SRN Hospital, where she was admitted to the ICU in critical condition. Acting on the complaint, Phaphamau police arrested Raviraj from Jagdishpur Shukali under Nawabganj police station and quack doctor Rahul, and sent them to jail. However, the main accused, Satyendra Patel, remains absconding. After the postmortem on Sunday, the family performed the last rites at the Phaphamau Ganga ghat. SHO Ashwani Singh said the case sections were enhanced based on the postmortem report and efforts are underway to trace the absconding accused. Doctors at SRN Hospital said the woman could not be saved because of extensive infection caused by the unsafe abortion. They said her uterus was severely damaged and part of her intestines had also been affected. Despite surgery and intensive care, she succumbed to her injuries....
