Meerut, Feb. 4 -- In what is suspected to be a case of robbery and murder, a woman was found brutally murdered in her house near Hapur's Garhmukteshwar on Tuesday morning, police said. Rita Sharma, 38, was alone when assailants broke into her residence in Mohammad Rustampur Palwada, a village under Bahadur Garh police station limits, ransacked the house, stole valuables worth lakhs of rupees and killed her when she resisted, officials added. Rita's throat was slit with a sharp-edged weapon, they noted. She was found dead by her husband Rahul Sharma, who owns a plasticware business in Chandpur, Bijnor. Police sent the body for a post-mortem, and a forensic team was called in to conduct a detailed examination of the crime scene. They said family members and neighbours were questioned, and multiple teams had been formed to identify and trace the suspects. Meanwhile, locals questioned the law-and-order and security arrangements in their area. Deputy superintendent of police Stuti Singh said the case was extremely critical and being investigated from all possible angles.
