Woman allegedly strangled and electrocuted for dowry
Jhansi, Feb. 13 -- A 23-year-old woman was allegedly strangled and electrocuted to death by her husband and in-laws in Jhansi early Wednesday morning. Police lodged a case against the husband and his family on Thursday evening after a post-mortem examination indicated murder.
The deceased, Pooja Pal, a resident of Datia in Madhya Pradesh, married Dhiraj in April 2022. He resides in village Palinda under Raksa police station in Jhansi district. The couple had a two-year-old daughter.
According to a complaint lodged by her family, Pooja had faced harassment since the beginning of her marriage. Her in-laws allegedly demanded Rs.5 lakh and a car as dowry. A few days ago, she called her brother and told him she had been severely beaten. The matter was temporarily settled after her parents intervened.
On Wednesday, Pooja's parents received a call from her in-laws informing them that she had died due to accidental electrocution. When the family reached the house, they found bruises on her face and head. They raised an alarm as the in-laws were preparing for the cremation.
Police reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem examination.
The autopsy was conducted by a panel of doctors. Sources said there were strangulation marks on her neck, bruises on her face and head, and signs of electric shock on her body. Circle officer (Sadar) Ramveer Singh said the preliminary investigation suggests murder. "There are strangulation marks around the neck along with signs of electrocution. An FIR has been lodged against the husband and in-laws under relevant sections related to dowry death and murder," he said. Police said further investigation is under way....
