Will write to Centre for removal of 2 ditties: Minister
LUCKNOW, May 12 -- After objecting to a couple of popular English nursery rhymes "Johnny, Johnny! Yes Papa? Eating sugar? No papa" and "Rain, rain, go away, little Johnny wants to play" last week, state higher education minister Yogendra Upadhyaya on Monday said he will write a letter to the Centre demanding removal of such poems from NCERT syllabus 'as they are against Indian values'.
"I will definitely write a letter to Union education minister with a request to remove these poems from NCERT syllabus and that it should not be taught to children in schools because it teaches selfishness and sows seeds of lies," Upadhyaya said at a press conference at the Secretariat. He, however, clarified that he is not against English language being taught in schools and only opposed the sentiments hidden within it.
"Telling a lie? No, Papa... Through these lines, the negative habit of lying creeps into the minds and consciousness of children. The subsequent line-"Open your mouth: Ha, ha, ha!"-reflects a child mocking his father or elders....
