Water tank develops 'cracks' within a day after testing in Mahoba
KANPUR, Feb. 17 -- A newly constructed overhead water tank under the Jal Jeevan Mission in Mahoba's Nagara Dang village allegedly developed cracks and started leaking within 24 hours of its maiden trial run, triggering allegations of substandard construction and sparking a fresh political row over the implementation of the scheme.
The tank, executed under the Namami Gange programme, was filled on February 14 to test the pipeline network for household supply. However, by 3 pm the following day, water began seeping through visible fissures in the structure, claimed villagers. Water supply was abruptly halted after a large quantity of water was wasted, leaving the infrastructure project stalled before formal commissioning in Jaitpur block. Village head Gayatri wrote to DM Gazal Bhardwaj and ADM (Namami Gange), alleging serious irregularities and seeking a high-level technical inspection to fix accountability.
