Varanasi, Feb. 9 -- A cattle smuggler wanted in a case registered in 2023 in Chandauli was arrested by the Special Task Force (STF) from the Sayedaraja area of Chandauli on Sunday, police said. The accused was carrying a reward of Rs.50,000 on his head. The accused was identified as Khalil, a resident of Nagliya Akil under Azimnagar police station in Rampur district, the STF said in a statement. The arrest was made by a team formed under the supervision of additional superintendent of police, STF, Lal Pratap Singh. During interrogation, the accused revealed that he ran a gang involved in smuggling bovine animals from states such as Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and Bihar to Assam, West Bengal and other states, the STF said. After a case was registered against him in March 2023 at Sayedaraja police station in Chandauli district, he had been absconding and frequently changed locations, hiding in Bihar, Haryana, Mumbai, Delhi and Ahmedabad. The STF said non-bailable warrants and proceedings under Sections 82 and 83 of the CrPC had already been initiated against him by the court. Khalil has been booked under Sections 3, 5A, 5B and 8 of the Cow Slaughter Act and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act at Sayedaraja police station, Chandauli. A complaint has been filed and further legal action will be taken by the local police.
