Vns court grants bail to Thakur in case related to social media post
VARANASI, Jan. 10 -- A Varanasi court on Friday granted bail to Azad Sena president and former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Amitabh Thakur after hearing his plea in a case related to a social media post registered against him in Varanasi on December 9.
The court of district Judge Sanjeev Shukla granted the bail and ordered the release of Thakur on furnishing two bail bonds of Rs. 50,000 each and a personal bond, said advocate Anuj Yadav, counsel for Amitabh Thakur.
Yadav argued that Thakur was falsely implicated due to political vendetta and the accused is a former IPS officer who was forcibly dismissed from service for raising his voice against the wrong policies and corruption of the state government. It may be noted that Ambrish Singh 'Bhola', a Varanasi resident and a leader of Hindu Yuva Vahini, had registered a case at Chowk police station on December 9, alleging that on November 30, Amitabh Thakur posted a video on his social media account which tarnished his image.
In a significant development related to the arrest of former IPS officer Amitabh Thakur, the Azad Adhikar Sena (AAS) on Friday moved a local court in Deoria, alleging that Thakur's arrest was illegal. The party has sought directions for the registration of an FIR against six senior Uttar Pradesh government and police officials, including an Additional Chief Secretary.
A petition was filed before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court, Deoria, by AAS office-bearer Singhasan Chauhan through advocate Praveen Dwivedi. The petition alleges that mandatory legal procedures and constitutional safeguards were not followed at the time of Thakur's arrest. Thakur is the national president of the Azad Adhikar Sena.
Amitabh Thakur was arrested by the Lucknow Police in connection with allegations dating back to 1999, related to the alleged fraudulent allotment of an industrial plot in Deoria in the name of his wife. An FIR was registered under various IPC sections, including cheating, forgery, criminal conspiracy, and other related offences.
Thakur is currently undergoing treatment at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI), Lucknow, after developing chest pain while lodged in Deoria district jail....
