Villagers attack police team, cop hurt; case filed
Meerut, March 7 -- A police team that reached a village in Sambhal district to stop loud political and obscene songs from playing late at night, was allegedly attacked by villagers, leaving a constable seriously injured and a sub-inspector hurt. Police have registered a case against 13 named individuals and 10-15 unidentified persons, including women, in connection with the assault.
The incident took place in Panwari village under the Babrala police station area of Gunnaur tehsil. According to police officials, TCL outpost in-charge sub-inspector Ramendrapal Singh was patrolling the area on Thursday night to ensure law and order in view of Holi. During the patrol, police received information that political and obscene songs were being played outside the house of Amrish, son of Nekram, in Panwari village. Acting on the tip-off, the police team reached the spot and instructed Amrish and his family members to immediately stop the music.
At the time, the accused assured the police that the music would be switched off. However, nearly 30 minutes later, police received another complaint that the music had been turned on again. The police team returned to the spot to intervene once more.
According to the police complaint, several villagers present at the location, including women, suddenly attacked the police team. The attackers allegedly hurled bricks and stones, abused the officers, and assaulted them with sticks and batons. During the violence, 32-year-old constable Madan Gopal suffered a serious head injury and collapsed unconscious at the scene....
