Victim's family alleges surveillance in the name of security
Meerut, Jan. 31 -- The family of a woman killed during the abduction of her daughter in Kapsad village of Meerut's Sardhana area has levelled serious allegations against the district administration, accusing it of keeping them under constant surveillance and ignoring their pleas for justice. The police, however, have denied the claims, calling them unfounded.
The case pertains to the murder of Sunita belonging to the Scheduled Caste community, who was fatally attacked while trying to resist the abduction of her daughter earlier this month. He claimed that they were being denied justice due to their Scheduled Caste status.
Sunita's son Narsi further alleged that the family is being kept under round-the-clock police watch. "We are not allowed to meet our relatives, nor are we permitted to move freely. Even our phones are being tapped," he claimed, alleging excessive restrictions imposed by the administration.
According to the police, the incident occurred on January 8, when a local youth, identified as Paras Som, allegedly abducted the young woman from the village. When her mother Sunita attempted to stop him, the accused attacked her with a sharp-edged weapon, leaving her critically injured. She later succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
The incident soon escalated into a major political issue at the state level, with Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati and Nagina MP Chandrashekhar Azad raising questions over the Yogi Adityanath government's handling of law and order. Following the political backlash, a heavy police force was deployed in Kapsad village, and the entry of outsiders was restricted to prevent further unrest.
Responding to the allegations, circle officer (CO) Sardhana Ashutosh Kumar said that the victim's family has been provided security as per government directives....
