LUCKNOW, Dec. 4 -- Sarojini Nagar police filed a charge-sheet within 40 hours in a child molestation case, and the police claimed this is one of the fastest investigations, intended to accelerate justice in crimes against women and minors. The case was registered on December 1 after the girl's mother informed police that her daughter, a Class 3 student who used to travel in a private school van, was allegedly molested by the driver, Sunil Singh. The complainant alleged that Singh regularly indulged in obscene acts with the child during her commute. "Police immediately booked the accused under Section 75(2) of the BNS 2023, and Sections 9M/10 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012," read a press note from the Lucknow police. "The investigators recorded statements under Sections 180 and 183 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and collected evidence deemed relevant, authentic, and admissible by officials. On December 2, less than 24 hours after the FIR, police arrested 61-year-old Sunil Singh, a resident of Ganganagar, Amausi, and sent him to jail," said ACP Krishna Nagar Rajneesh Verma. Police said that following the arrest, they completed the remaining procedural and forensic documentation at an expedited pace.
