Meerut, Feb. 3 -- The Uttar Pradesh government has sanctioned Rs.104 crore to complete the long-pending Mudha bridge over the Ramganga river in Dataganj area of Budaun district, a project that had remained stalled since severe floods in 2023 and came under sharp focus after a tragic accident in November 2024 that claimed three lives. Dataganj MLA Rajeev Kumar Singh said the completion of the bridge would provide major relief not only to local residents but also to people from neighbouring districts. He said the budget was approved after he raised the issue with chief minister Yogi Adityanath. The bridge, located between Mudha Pukhta village in Dataganj and Faridpur, had become partially unusable after a devastating flood in September 2023 washed away around 180 metres of the approach road on the Faridpur side. Since then, the incomplete bridge has caused persistent hardship to residents of the region, severely affecting daily commuting, access to healthcare, education, and agricultural activities. Public attention intensified after November 24, 2024, when a car carrying three youths plunged off the incomplete bridge, killing all occupants. Originally constructed about five years ago at a cost of Rs.42 crore, the 700-metre-long bridge had significantly reduced the distance between Dataganj and Faridpur. However, the flood damage rendered it useless, forcing commuters to take a 68-kilometre detour. Once the bridge is completed, the distance will reduce to just 30 kilometres. The route also serves as a key corridor connecting Dataganj to Tilhar, Katra, Shahjahanpur, Lucknow, and Sitapur. To find a permanent solution, the PWD engaged a team of experts from IIT Roorkee. The team conducted a model study in January 2025 and submitted its report after four months. The report recommended extending the bridge length by 200 metres, constructing a new 400-metre approach road, and developing an additional 3 to 4 kilometres of approach road to ensure long-term safety and sustainability....
