UP concede first innings lead to Chhattisgarh on Day 3
LUCKNOW, Jan. 26 -- Spirited Uttar Pradesh continued to struggle even on the penultimate day of their four-day Elite Group D encounter in the Under-23 Col CK Nayudu Trophy as hosts Chhattisgarh on Sunday took 51-run first innings lead, at the Sector 10, BSP Cricket Stadium in Bhilai.
While chasing Uttar Pradesh's first innings total of 335, Chhattisgarh scored 386 in 141.3 overs in their first innings. This wasn't all as Uttar Pradesh batters too found struggling in the second innings as they 73/4 in 27 overs when the third day's game came to an end on Sunday evening.
Skipper Adarsh Singh could make 28 in 48 balls with the help of three hits to the fence before being run out in the second innings. Deepak Rana (0), Kavya Teotia (2) and keeper-batter Kaartikaya Singh (1) departed in quick succession as Uttar Pradeesh were reduced to 62/4. Dependable Rituraj Sharma was at the crease along with Mohd Amaan (3) at the draw of stumps after scoring 66-ball 32, which contained five hits to the fence.
Earlier resuming at the overnight score of 272/4 in their first innings, Chhattisgarh batters took the team's total beyond Uttar Pradesh's first innings total even though left-arm orthodox spinner Shubham Mishra bagged 5/101. Rituraj Sharma, Akshu Bajwa and Mohd Amaan shared three wickets between them, whereas Vishal Tomar took 2/49.
Sahil Rajat Shariff after resuming at the overnight score of 74, showed his class in style, hammering a century for Chhattisgarh. His 198-ball 103 was studded with 11 boundaries and a six and before being bowled by Mishra, Shariff along with Vivek Yadav (20, 86b, 3x4) added 47 runs for the fifth wicket.
Two wickets in an over in the innings 109th over by Mishra though shook Jharkhand's batting a bit, a fine unbeaten 105-ball 33 laced with four hits to the fence by Varun Singh Bhuie saved the day for the hosts....
