PRAYAGRAJ, April 17 -- UP 112 constable crushed to death by container near Atsarai flyover A police constable posted in Fatehpur district was killed late Wednesday night after a container truck ran over his motorcycle near the Atsarai flyover under the jurisdiction of Saini police station in Kaushambi. The deceased was identified as Vivek Kumar, 36, a resident of Mariahu in Jaunpur district. He was serving as a constable with the UP 112 emergency response unit and was presently deployed on picket duty in Hathgaon, Fatehpur. According to police, Vivek was on leave and riding his motorcycle to his native village in Jaunpur on Wednesday night to help with preparations for his sister's wedding scheduled on April 21. As he reached near the Atsarai flyover on the highway, a speeding container truck went out of control and ran him over, leaving him critically injured. Passersby alerted the police, following which SHO of Saini police station Trilokinath Pandey reached the spot. The injured constable was rushed to the Sirathu Community Health Centre, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Police have arrested a youth and sent him to jail for illegally cultivating opium on agricultural land taken on a sharecropping basis in Dhangarh Sarai Chhiwalha village in Pratapgarh. The action was taken on Wednesday when a police team, led by SHO Anand Pal Bhadauria, conducted a raid in the village following specific information about opium cultivation. During the operation, police found opium being cultivated in the field without any legal permission.
