U.S. trade deal a betrayal of farmers: rahul
New Delhi, Feb. 16 -- Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday accused the Centre of "betraying Indian farmers" in the name of US trade deal and sought answers from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on what he said could become a long-term threat to India's agriculture sector.
"In the name of US trade deal, we are witnessing a betrayal of Indian farmers," Gandhi said in a post on X, adding that farmers deserved immediate clarification from the government.
Flagging concerns over livestock feed and dairy dependence, Gandhi questioned the proposed import of dried distillers' grains (DDGs). "What exactly does it mean to import DDG? Does it mean that Indian cattle will be fed distillers' grains made from GM American corn? Won't this effectively make our milk products dependent on the US agricultural industry?" he said, asking several questions related to the interim trade deal....
