U'khand: STF, police bust illegal arms racket; 2 held
Dehradun, March 25 -- Uttarakhand Special Task Force, in a joint operation with Jaspur police, arrested two accused and recovered illegal firearms and ammunition in Udham Singh Nagar district, officials said on Tuesday.
Senior Superintendent of Police (STF) Ajai Singh said that directions had been issued to all STF units to take strict action against illegal foreign nationals, infiltrators, suspicious elements, criminal gangs and individuals in possession of illegal weapons.
"In furtherance of these directives, the Anti-Narcotics Team (Kumaon) of STF, in a joint operation with Kotwali Jaspur police, arrested two accused in the Jaspur area and recovered two pump-action firearms, two .32 bore pistols and 10 live cartridges from their possession," Singh said.
The accused have been identified as Shamsher Singh (39), a resident of Village Hazira in Jaspur, and Simranjeet (37), a resident of Anjaniya Farm in Pulbhatta area of Udham Singh Nagar. A case has been registered against them at Kotwali Jaspur under relevant sections of the Arms Act, he said.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that they had procured the weapons from Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh and were allegedly on their way to sell them in Jaspur....
