VARANASI, Feb. 11 -- Two named individuals and a few unidentified ones were on Tuesday booked for allegedly obstructing on Monday demolition of buildings declared dilapidated by the Varanasi Nagar Nigam in Dal Mandi area of the temple town for a road widening project, police said. A police officer said that based on the complaint of Dal Mandi chowki in-charge Prakash Singh Chauhan, an FIR was registered against Ajmat, Farooq Khan and some other unidentified individuals under Section 221 (obstructing any public servant in discharge of his duty) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 and Section 7 CL Act during the demolition work. The remaining parts of the 22 buildings, which were demolished on Monday, were razed. For security reasons, media entry was restricted on Tuesday. A information banner placed in the area read: "All media friends are requested to note that the widening of Dal Mandi road is underway. Consequently, the demolition of several buildings is underway simultaneously. Therefore, in view of security, all media friends are requested not to enter Dal Mandi during demolition work." Meanwhile, Alok Verma, additional district magistrate (city), said, "The Varanasi Nagar Nigam had declared 22 buildings, including houses and shops, dilapidated in Dal Mandi area.
